ROLES & CONTRACTS

ROLES & CONTRACTS

TOUR MANAGER:

Salary:From £13k per annum

Hours: full time, 24/7 while on tour

Working enviroment:On the road, always on tour.

Duties:A tour manager is there to plan and to make sure everything goes accord to the plan , also to solve any issues presented within it. Before a tour starts a tour manager has different duties always depending on the band and the sort of music played, that tour manager has to : book hotels, sort out visas, equipment, transportation, legal requirements, sign contracts among others.

Skills: Is veery important that a tour manager has very good knowledge of the music industry , work underpresure , be very organised, good at time keeping, and acknowledge and  solve a problem.

Education: A degree is not neccesary ,but law and maths are a must known, also having studied or been working within the music industry for a considerable amount of time are very important.Studies like primary and secondary schools must be completed

Job satisfaction: Althought is a very stresfull job, you get to travel with professionals ( hopefully ) as you are lways busy there isn't much time to spend your earnings , depending on the tour that is been done, some can last for 6 months ,some for less , some for longer, the tour manager will earn a good amount of money then have couple of moths holiday , to recover.
Also every tour done is more work experience for your CV , and usually you don't really have to "get your hands dirty"

Type of contract: The contract signed in this case is usually a freelance contract, which means that that person will be hired for an specific amount of time, normally the same as the tour's length . From when the tour manager gets contacted , he/she will start making a time table of how long that person it is going to be employed, so before signing the contract the pay and the challenges of the tour are stablished.
Once this is done, then the budget and other financial matters will be looked after , the tour manager would hav e been earning money even before the tour started, as the promotion for new dates needs to be done, there is a huge plan that needs to be created with a good amount of time before hand.
In a freelance contract, you will enjoy many advantages, as you will ear money even while you sleep , as you have to often travel and stay very close with the band making sure that things go well , and to make sure that that band/artists stays healthy and positive,as there are many risks that a musician goes through while on tour , from illnesses, depression, colds, exhaustion , addiction etc.

Job satisfaction: working as booking agent will be as enjoyable as you want it to be, due to the nature of the work, social networking is very important, you have to be constantly meeting people, attending meetings, and social events, the biiger your network is ,the more opportunities you will have to get work, the more work you get , the more money you earn.Although it sounds simple, is very impotant to stay focused and be responsable, you as a person will become a product, you as a person will be the image of the produc that if it looks friendly and responsable clients will like more and more, for example, if you do a job wrong or you behave badly, it will affect your entwork ,as this person may niot recomend you and might speak bad about to others making more difficult for you to find work.

Type of contract: the contract can vary, it can be freelance or fixed term contracts. Certain bands have their own booking agent, but usually the whole work gets booked by a manager, it always depends on the artist and how organized and successful they are. as a booking agent you will have artists booked under your name, this means that depending on how good you are, and how good reviews you get you will get more people looking for you. Then your job is to get them work, either gigs, social encounters, TV or radio apparitions , if the booking agent if not on top of everything that is happening , he/she will lose clients which it isn't good when you work with clients, the more work you get the artists the more you will earn.By being on top of things i mean , be  always alert ! sometimes festivals need certain sort of artists and they will advertise it, sometimes you will see that a band of the same style of music is playing in a local venue , and they are very likely to be looking for support acts, those are the opportunities that if you don't take many artists will try and find a better booking agent around.

Unit 39:Areas of the music industry

Areas of the music industry

                                                             Record Companies
Record companies are one the most important factors both financially and promotion within the music industry. Their main targets is to sign musicians into their label, by signing a contract leagued to royalties and law terms,so they will always take a percentage of anything the artist earns. There are different kind of deals that one can get within a label:
-Artist deal

This deal consist in the artist receiving a money advance, this is to be used to create and publish a record, from recording it  until the distribution, this includes promotion , manufacture etc. This advance is a loan , therefore the artist has to pay it back to the label. Here 20% goes to the artist 80 record label

-Joint Venture Deal
This deal consist in the label financing only the making of the record, once the costs of the record are covered the artist will receive 50% of earnings
-Distribution deal

This deal consists in the artist to do everything by themselves, paying for the whole process , the making, recording, promotion of the record, here the label only has to make sure that the record gets an space in the "shelf" at music shops. Artist here receives 80% of earnings

Those were all the deals that an artist can get in a label, now there are the different types of labels you can find:

-Major labels
They have under their control most of the record market, they own more than 5% of the music market.
Now days , there are only three major labels , they control a huge percentage of the industry ,88.5% to be precise , they are Universal music group , Sony music entertainment and Warner music group.

-Independent Labels
These labels own what is not own by the three major labels, as the name explains , they are in dependent therefore they fund themselves , and they always try to focus  in one music genre. For example we have Dualtone,XL recordings,Glassnote among others.

-Subsidiary Labels
A subsidiary label is still an independent label , often bought and funded by some of the Major labels.

In a persona\l view , i would choose an independent label, and signing a artist deal.
Independent labels often will dedicate more to promote something new ,not necessarily commercial, so to start the best choice it to pick one of these labels, many of the artist i listen to ,they started on independent trecor labels,  for an example Deathlike Silence signed many young Norse bands , like Enslaved, Dimmu Borgir and Japanese Sigh among others. This label made sure that these bands were heard within the underground across the globle. I.I personally would love a label to do this, as metal fans see bands and respect them as a cult, a fan base would become stronger if the band is signed to a record label that is not mainstream as everything is better "underground" for many metal fans.On top of this ,by signing an Artist deal, i would achieve a goal of being signed to a label but not having to spend from my own pocket, specially if i am just starting my carter in the music industry.

                                                               Artist management
An artist manager in that person in charge of the band's progression, with this i mean that the artist manager controls the time table of the band , they guide the bands towards achieving a goals, from assisting to meetings, arranging gigs, and other public events , to give them legal protection and promotion.
Some of the skills needed to be an artist manager is to stay focused, have good network, good people skills, mange both legal and financial matters.
Many starting bands manage themselves , because they cannot afford to pay one or it is not necessary as there isn't much going in the bands life but as the time passes and the band's goals become more and more challenging in necessary to find one, to help them get promoted, to get them on the road, to protect them and they become essential in the bands progress.

Being a musician and doing what you love feels awesome, but we need to realise that happiness has a price, price that we as individuals give, and focusing specially in making music and enjoy life is made a lot easier irf you have someone in charge of all of the paperwork ,legal stuff that you have to deal with everyday, having that person to promote you book you gigs, and manage your career can save you from making bad decisions that could put your career and life in danger. An artist manager can become very close to you ,and can open many doors too.. So be nice to them !

                                                              Music publishing
They are in charge of looking after the royalties that belong to the artist and/or composers. They make sure that they get paid if any of their compositions get used by someone else , like the radio ,video games, entertainment , TV etc. So the first step to publish a musical composition
**Registration
This means that the song belongs to someone once it gets registered, is like putting your stamp on it so that in case it get used you receive money from ,off course, if you authorize it's use
**licensing
After registering the song, you need a license, just to ensure that you receive the money that belongs to you if it gets used by someone else.It goes through a third party.
**royalty collection
When a song that has been registered it mean that belongs to someone, now, if it get used in any way by not the owner, royalties have to be paid to the artist,as an example if the songs gets used on a radio show, they have to pay for it, even thought it also promotes the artist they must pay for the use of the track.
**creative exploitation
A song can be advertise to be used in many sectors withing the art industry, like sound track for films, video games, among others. This will also help to promote the artist.

But also there are different type of publishers, Administrators they are mainly a rather small business, they look after the registration, collection, and licensing of the song, Independent will provide the registration licensing and collection , on top of this they can give creative services and advances,Major publishers can afford to pay a huge percentage in advance in order to keep what corresponds to them in the market intact. With all of this, you get two types of publishing deals, Co-publishing deal ,which is when a songwriter gives away 50% of the royalties or copyright of his composition to the publisher and the Administration deal which mean that the artist will keep hold of all the money made by the track, but  will let the publisher to keep a percentage of the record/song sales.

Is very important to have your songs published, to protect them , as it is a product someone can steal it.By publishing a song you automatically will have a better change to ear money from it, and it can vary from where it it used, for example if it gets used on a radio station, money will come your way every time it gets played, but if it is on a film you will get certain amount of money in one go, and depending on how is it used and the length used the money will increase.

                                                                    Live performance

When music or any other soft of  performing art gets done live it's called live performance, the venue or place can vary, the audience can vary, but it is always consider live performance if it is done in front of an audience , from one  person onwards.
Now days, live performance if one of the biggest sources of income an artist gets, as they record sales have been brutally afected by illegal downloading , and piracy. Also it is an amazing way to promote the band/artist, and to gain experience and helps you get ready for bigger things in the career, bigger venues, more challenging audiences , on the side of things , live performance creates many jobs , some of them are sound engineers, lighting engineers, roadies, stage managers, ushers, bar staff, security, box office clerks, health and safety supervisors, fire mans, merchandise sellers, photographers etc. . Live music is quiet an important part of the economy in certain countries.

As a  musician, an being in a band, i find performing live as the most exciting part of the whole process, as you get to very often play the music you love and /or composed ,on top  of this you help others, inspire others , earn some money and release adrenaline. It is also a great way to promote the band. Some one said once " To play a wrong note , is insignificant, but to play without passion is inexcusable" - Ludwig Van Beethoven

listening experience

Listening experience

For this assignment i chose "Diabolic suicide" from the Japanese band called "Sigh", as this album , specially this has got many elements new to me , and i dare to say that it is one of the strangest things i have ever heard, and probably will never hear something quiet like it.This band is Japanese which also explains why this is quiet estrange.

Although this isn't part of the assignment it is necessary to explain part of what goes behind the song,as it is not only about how it sounds but the how brilliantly composed it was. This song is over 7 minutes long, and has got a strange variety of passages thought the song, the actual structure of the song is not something heard a lot in this style of music. Making part of the the beginning of the second wave of black  metal, this band brings many elements of classical music/composers into their music.Recorded in a low quality studio, with low quality equipment, these guys manage to get away with it, as the record is so strange, the quality of the recording , and the incredible ability to compose, they cut any feelings away from the music.
SONIC DESCRIPTION
This song was released and recorded around 1998-1999, and the sound is not the best but there are many qualities that make it a very good recording.
To start with, something that called my attention from the beginning is the panning of the song, it has got an amazing creative use of the panning, all the way through the song the drum fills will start on the right and and finish on the left ( many recordings do it form left to right )

Also, many of extra instruments like bells will travel across both sides of the speaker/earphones ,a clear example is at the the break of the song, when there is a voice saying "suicide" that travels around the panning making it sound like it is travelling around your head.It makes everything feel like if the band existed inside your head. It also has this horror-circus movie sound over all.At the intro you can hear wind, wind that can be heard only in very quiet places, often where there isn't buildings but nature, as the way the sound is traveling doesn't sound interrupted by the shapes of buildings.

Many of the low frequencies( bass, low notes etc. ) don't sound powerful , giving it a "dead" sound,it's rawness was achieved mainly by the way the song was mixed and mastered. At the start you can hear the radio frequencies of a radio , in very low quality and very distorted, it's that white noise that you get when you are changing between radio stations on an old radio.

Then the whole band starts playing, the drums haven't got reverb on them, they sound very tight , although they have a very thin sound.
The guitars rhythm guitars have got a lot of distortion, but the gain settings are not that high, and they are have quiet a lot of treble. The lead guitar in the main part where it is played is considerably louder than the rhythm guitar, they have more gain and they have reverb on them which makes it easier to notice and differentiate from the other guitar.

On a small part of the song an acoustic song plays using a lot of reverb, with a ambience background noise, like if it took place near a water source, most likely to the the sea.On top of this, the band uses a synthesiser and sampler, creating that pipe organ sound.

Here you can listen to the song , and read the lyrics

All my misery and all my hate
All my regrets and all my fate
To my breast I'm holding them all
What you hear will be the executioner's call
All my blood and all my tears
All my anger and all my fears
To my breast I'm holding them all
What you fear will be the executioner's call

All my reasons and all my treason

All my illusions and all my disillusions
To my breast I'm holding them all
What you hear will be the executioner's call
Buried is my beautiful death and
Buried is my miserable life
My precious life was poisoned and then my death
My death will be raped

I was dreaming in the darkness when they called my name

Never save me please!
Rising is my vengeance when my death collides and life fades
Never save me please!
I was dreaming in the darkness when they called my name
Never save me please!
Rising is my vengeance it is DIABOLIC SUICIDE!
Never save me please!

Confusion starts to rise and

What I've done is a sin to win
Mercy isn't a key to me as
Light is in my hand and darkness is in my hand
When the candle burns out and
When the flame of life burns out
It's the beginning of the end
It's the beginning of the vengeance, my friend

Hidden feelings invoked, I'm choked, now I need a sacrifice

I will sacrifice myself to achieve my goal, time will come tonight
When another love is born and when another death is born
Souls will be torn, my thorn, and let them go
They're forgotten and forlorn

texture of the music ( resubmission )

Track 1
URBS JERUSALEM BEATA
This song is definitely sang heavily if not in total by male vocals, the different pitches used in the song can be heard clearly. The song is Homo phonic , as everyone is singing a melody moved together in Harmony.
The song is very likely to be sang in a church or  cathedral, this causes the sound to travel around and create and echo. Due to the structure of a cathedral the sound waves will travel around and will hit the walls on a soft manner as the isn't that much wind, what makes them travel back  creating an echo. They use of microphones is absent
Track 2
SUMER IS ICUMEN IN
The song is sang by three people, two female one male, they are all singing a Mono phonic song, they are all singing the same notes, at times in different octaves but the notes sequence is the same.
They are singing outdoors, there is a lot of background noise, as they are singing on a park near a main road, it is windy out there, and you can hear the wind interfering with the sound and the recording, as the wind obstructs sound waves to travel smoothly, also the microphone of the recording device, it is not condensed but dynamic , thing that will catch a lot of extra noise.
The sound is very loud and causes and unnecessary distortion, and there is not reverb or echo.
Track 3
WHOLE LOTTA LOVE
This song is sang/played by an amazing band ( sorry i had to say it ), the song is Polyphonic, even thought all the guitars might be playing the same notes and chords we have couple of extra instruments here, like the drums, which is tuned into a key but it is not pitched to a note.
This performance is taking place at the Royal Albert Hall , it is easy to hear background noise made the people cheering and clapping, but this is a closed venue , thing that doesn't let the sound travel far and make it sound with a echoed, this is because there is people in the crowd , they are bodies, they have heat, there fore they will consume energy and the sound waves, they break once they hit the people and the acoustics of the venue.

functions of the keyboard ( resubmission )

PIANO
Is played using a keyboard, made of usually white and black keys, is made of wood, to make it sound, when you press a key ,an small hammer hits a string inside of the piano making in resonate , and once this key is released the string will stop sounding. There are some pedals that will extend the sound or mute the sound depending on the pedal used. This little hammer touches the string as hard as you hit the key , depending on the acceleration you want to achieve.
PIPE ORGAN
A pipe organ has works nearly the same way as a Piano, the difference is that the piano creates a sound by using strings, the Pipe Organ releases air that travels pressurised into pipes, this pipes depending on the size or set up it will change the pitch, timbre, and volume.
By pressing a key, it will press also a valve the the air is kept, then it sends it the air compressed into the mouth of the the pipe, as the air is compressed it makes it sound depending on the ratio ( size ) of the pipes.
HARPSICHORD
The harpsichord works similar to a keyboard, as the sound is made by the strings inside the piano , same system, when a key is pressed it acts on the strings , but this time it doesn't hit them,it plugs the strings.
By pressing the key , there is a mechanism inside that makes the string sound, as soon as a string is pressed a small strip of wood will lift , a piece of wood that holds a plectrum. When the plectrum goes up it touches the string, when it is released ,the strip of wood moves to the side slightly so it won't touch the string a again on it's way back.
ELECTRIC KEYBOARD ( SYNTHESIZER )
The electric keyboard has the same keys and same system as the other keyboards, but it doesn't have anything physical being used, apart from electricity as the name says so.Depending on the brand or model of this keyboard the sound may vary, this is to do with the purpose it was made for, either for certain genre, ambience or region.
When a key is pressed is touches a certain button , this button will send digital information ( MIDI ) towards different components inside the keyboard, giving the information needed , like the velocity, volume, and key played then finally travelling into the output.

ELECTRIC KEYBOARD ( SAMPLER )
This kind of synthesizer instead of producing the sound, the sounds are saved into a memory, depending on the type of sampler, the way of operating it can vary, the sampler can have the sounds saved into an internal/external memory, then it gets triggered by pressing any key of buttons that can produce MIDI data.
So depending on the storage memory, many many sounds can be saved and used with a sampler, it can easily imitate nature sounds, and other intruments.

Finding Faults (P), Label 14.3

Kings of Leon-Sex is on fire

*the drums and rhythm guitar come a tiny bit late on the first bar, making the whole band out of time
the vocals also come late. This can be blamed on the monitors, if the band cannot hear themselves it makes them go all out of time , in here they started out of time , and on an effort ( if they tried ) to get back in time they have lost all control of the band.

*At the chorus the singer sings out of tune, he sings higher than what he should , i would say 3 tones up,the guitars at the chorus are not synchronized, one guitar is ahead , the other one is behind the beat also playing different notes or out of key, this is causing a clash of notes, which means that the notes played don't really make part of the same key signature, and the sound waves clash when traveling.

*the drums at the chorus stays behind, with it , it is taking the band.

*At the second verse, everyone in the band seems to be "lost" ,with this i mean that they don't exactly know at what part in the song they are, is very likely that it happens because they cannot really hear themselves on stage, as Kings of Leon have definitely played before a large crowd, i wouldn't say it is because of nervousness.

*at the second chorus it as the band got "lost" , they also played something different of what the chorus is supposed to sound, the drums accelerate and play at a totally different tempo, also the guitarist play different notes of what is is supposed to be played, playing very high up in the fretboard without making any concern of the key he is playing on.

Elvis Costello - veronica

*there is some sort of extra noise,an ambient noise, specially when he is doing the narrative introduction, this ambient noise is caused by the equipment used for the recording of his voice, first of all , it seems that they used a dynamic microphone , which in difference than the condensed microphone,it catches every noise that surrounds it, this includes wind, breathing ( on a higher scale ), so  in this case you can hear a background noise , that ,well , it sounds more like if it was accidental rather than intentional.

*the panning is focused in the left side, on the right hand side you can hear a lot of the guitar, overdrive guitar, and the drums are loud but not clear and on a higher noise level than on the right, in the right you cannot hear much of the drums but a lot of the bass and the phrased (effect ) guitar and the drums are still quieter than at the other side. This is mainly to do with the mixing and the mastering of the son, the mixing levels have are very high, causing a mistaken distortion, and the sounds to struggle when traveling out of the speakers, or headphones. The panning of the the track is mainly done while he recording , and after the recording, and the volume levels get sorted during the mixing, which will leave the overall sound, but during the mastering of the song it wasn't well sorted either as the song sounds quiet different from the headphones and the speakers.

*the bass frequencies are too low, you can hear the bass being very thin, it can be heard in earphones , but not very well in speakers, specially when there are more than two instruments playing at the same time, when the bass and the drums are playing it sounds clear ,but if you add an extra instrument it cannot be heard, this  is again probably  due to the bad mixing, and the quality of how it was recorded, then again, it doesn't sound like it is intentional but accidental issues. There is a sort of Eco through the song, not an Eco caused by an effect like reverb or ambiance, but more to do with the quality of the recording, it could of be that the  wire connections withing the studio were full of dust , specially in the mixing/recording desk, causing a major interference withing the circuits and connections not letting the electricity travel as smooth as is should. Or, it could be that the quality of the recording studio is low, and old. When recording a song is necessary to make sure that the equipment is in condition to record, it needs to cleaned constantly, also covered and protected when not in use, i guess if you want something cheap is not going to sound as good as something with a higher price.

BLASPHEMY FEST14

Business plan
Setting up a gig

I have been asked to make a business plan to put up a gig.

here I am to explain the process on how to do it, with very detailed information about the entire process.

The first thing that needs to be done is to find a venue,in this case it will be an small venue, with capacity of max. 200 people, as The Live Music Act 2012 says that if i make an even with less than 200 people and the event is between 8 am and 11 pm i won't need a license.

The event is called " BLASPHEMY FEST14"  which is a black metal music event, where 2 support bands and a headliner will play at The Intrepid Fox , these bands are Dark sigh(UK),Seven gates(UK)and the headliner PERPETUA(UK) .they have all agreed to play together somewhere in London , date and venue yet to be confirmed.
The Intrepid Fox (@ Archway Tavern)is located in 1, Archway Close,London,N19 3TD. The nearest tube station is Archway tube station ( Northern Line ).By bus:
BUS ROUTES
BUSES  THAT GO TO ARCHWAY STATION:
4, 17, 41, 143, 390, C11, W5
ROUTES THAT PASS NEARBY :
43, 134, 210, 263, 271, N20, N41

Improvement works take place on weekends and bank holidays on the London Underground services, check before you travel by visiting the transport for London website at : https://www.tfl.gov.uk.

This is a Black Metal gig, this means that not everyone that is into metal necessarily will be interested on attending due to the bands or the extremism of the music genre, but then again the gig's capacity is up to 200 people, so the show will sell very quick. The Intrepid Fox is a rock/metal venue, and they often put up free gigs so that bands can play and can get people to know of them rather than having only closest friends to show up and support, as many gigs are free or low priced loads of people attend and purchase alcohol, buy merch etc. they make the money back from a free gig.

Sound/engineers work fro the venue, so there is not need to hire engineers for this gig, stage crew are often volunteers, that also work in for the venue and this guys are really good at what they do, and are very friendly. So far the costs for the gig are minimal, if not absent !  Off course , there are going to be some costs but we will discuss that shortly.

To book the gig I need to contact Andre Joyzi, employee of the intrepid fox/Breed 77 drummer. He is the person in charge of booking gigs at the venue, so he is the man i must speak to. After the date, time and venue are agreed, we need to move on into the next step: Logistics.I need to think what is going to be needed for the gig taking place at The Intrepid Fox, the venue owns a very tight variety of equipment, this includes a Drum kit ( basic set up ) but they don't have any amplifiers, or cabinets.
The lighting and venue's sound and lighting system is fairly good, is loud and smooth, but the amplifiers need to be brought into the venue. As I am going to bring two bands from outside London, one is from Austria , i need to think about how much it will cost for them to bring their equipment into London from Brighton and Newcastle, so just to thinking about this part of the project can go up to £1000 , as they need to hire a Van/Driver to bring the equipment to London and take it back, and as it is a free gig they won't make any money back.
So here is a change of plans,as they have to pay for a hotel and transport expenses we will charge £6for a ticket, £4 if bought online,so on in case we sell 200 tickets, on an approximately amount
of £5 , that will give us £1000,divided into 3 bands , that will leave around £333  to each band. This excluding the profit made from merchandise sales. The rest of the equipment is either own by the bands or the venue.

The date  and time agreed was on the Friday 12th of July at 7 pm ( Doors ). This was the best date because it leaves me plenty of time to promote the gig and to get all the equipment and crew together for the event , also Seven Gates is going to start an UK tour ,their first date is in London, the next one is on their hometown, Brighton, so they want to take their equipment from there to the rest of the UK but they are not well known in London and they want to get promoted on the Greater city.
The project started on the 25th of May, and by the 2nd of June we had everything ready to start promoting the gig.
To sort out the problem arisen with the amplification, i remember some friend of mine ( Chloe Herington ) told me about this company where i can go and hire equipment for live performance. This company is called John Henry's, and this company has very good reviews on equipment and prices. For more information visit www.johnhenrys.com
So after i found what the bands needed, it was the same for all of them, what made things easier. One Marshall and one Orange guitar amplifiers, and One
They needed two guitar amplifiers and bass guitar amplifier. Every band owns their own cabinet so, now i need to send this plan list to The Intrepid Fox stage manager, so that he could have everything ready in advance for the gig. The hiring of the instruments comes up to a total of £400 for 3 days minimum  ( company policies ) , plus a £600 deposit, money that i don't have , neither my family, so i had to ask a very close friend to lend me the money, luckily he lend me 90% ( £900 ) and i used my savings to pay the rest, as i will get £600 back as soon as i return the equipment he didn't mind , but off course i have to pay the other £400 , money that the bands have agreed to pay at the end , so each band will have to pay £133 approx. for the equipment hire, which is not a problem for them, but they said they weren't sure if it's worth it to play for £200, so coming back to terms we agreed that they instead of getting £333 , they would get only £300 for the gig , that gives me £99 extra to pay for the equipment, luckily there is another gig taking place at the venue the next day, and speaking to Andre he said he and his project will pay £250 for the rest of the hiring time, which leaves me with £349 towards paying for the hiring of the equipment. In order to get this £51 back , i decided to make a raffle at the day of the gig, so people will enter the raffle which is an electric guitar signed by all band members of the headliner PERPETUA ( which  is also the band that i play for ) , it costs £1 to enter , the guitar cost£50 , but if i get everyone to get a ticket this equals £££ cash ! Also the transport of the equipment cost and extra £30.

Now the costs of the equipment are covered, after this let's think about the promotion.
The venue will allow us to promote gig from the inside, by using posters and leafleting in and out the venue every night , but as i said before not many people are into this kind of music, not even on a metal venue, but we are smart ! we decided to search for a targeted audience, and wait! i just remember, the infamous Brazilian demons Mystifier are playing on the 7th of June at the Dome in Tufnell park,London, they play pure black metal , what a  great place to start promoting the gig.
We used this online website to print the leaflets, called instaprint ( www.instantprint.co.uk ) which charged us £15 for 1000 leaflets, this money also came out of my pocket. I personally attended the Mystifier gig to give leaflets to people, nearly 400 were gone within minutes, people were very interested on a black metal gig, which means the BLASPHEMY FEST14 is very likely to be sold out soon .On social media we put up a Facebook page, and an event , we ( the bands ) invited everyone we knew to this groups so that people could stay updated about any changes and to make them aware of the raffle, and the times , date and methods of transport.

At the day of the gig, the venue was ready for the performance, some of the fox employees/volunteers are already at the venue, to sort out the gig the stage, to bring in the equipment from the van in , ready for the soundcheck, as people arrive, the box office is just one friend of us that is doing some experiance work , and the ticket system is complex, onky thing needed to collect a ticket is an ID , and for those who bought it online, it has a unique number, so they cancel it out on a sheet that holds all the information about them.
it is a 18+ gig,so the security hired by the venue, will do the security checks ( ID,bags etc. )
the engineers will set up the sound and lighting, and the crew will set up the stage, they work for the venue too, so i don't have to worry about them, i just need to help bringing the equipment in, also make sure that they get a beer or a drink after the gig as a thank you, so that next time i decide to set up a gig like this in here they will be more than happy to help.

The gig was nearly sold out within two weeks, and at the day of the performance, it was sold out, also did the tickets for the raffle, the attendance was perfect, every band raised about £400 ,this includes the merchandise sales.

the expenses were over £500 including, equipment hire, promotion, and casual expenses for before, during, and after the performance ( transport, beer, water, food in general ) leaving us a profit of over £300 per band.

Until the next time!

Thank you.
