Kings of Leon-Sex is on fire
*the drums and rhythm guitar come a tiny bit late on the first bar, making the whole band out of time
the vocals also come late. This can be blamed on the monitors, if the band cannot hear themselves it makes them go all out of time , in here they started out of time , and on an effort ( if they tried ) to get back in time they have lost all control of the band.
*At the chorus the singer sings out of tune, he sings higher than what he should , i would say 3 tones up,the guitars at the chorus are not synchronized, one guitar is ahead , the other one is behind the beat also playing different notes or out of key, this is causing a clash of notes, which means that the notes played don't really make part of the same key signature, and the sound waves clash when traveling.
*the drums at the chorus stays behind, with it , it is taking the band.
*At the second verse, everyone in the band seems to be "lost" ,with this i mean that they don't exactly know at what part in the song they are, is very likely that it happens because they cannot really hear themselves on stage, as Kings of Leon have definitely played before a large crowd, i wouldn't say it is because of nervousness.
*at the second chorus it as the band got "lost" , they also played something different of what the chorus is supposed to sound, the drums accelerate and play at a totally different tempo, also the guitarist play different notes of what is is supposed to be played, playing very high up in the fretboard without making any concern of the key he is playing on.
Elvis Costello - veronica
*there is some sort of extra noise,an ambient noise, specially when he is doing the narrative introduction, this ambient noise is caused by the equipment used for the recording of his voice, first of all , it seems that they used a dynamic microphone , which in difference than the condensed microphone,it catches every noise that surrounds it, this includes wind, breathing ( on a higher scale ), so in this case you can hear a background noise , that ,well , it sounds more like if it was accidental rather than intentional.
*the panning is focused in the left side, on the right hand side you can hear a lot of the guitar, overdrive guitar, and the drums are loud but not clear and on a higher noise level than on the right, in the right you cannot hear much of the drums but a lot of the bass and the phrased (effect ) guitar and the drums are still quieter than at the other side. This is mainly to do with the mixing and the mastering of the son, the mixing levels have are very high, causing a mistaken distortion, and the sounds to struggle when traveling out of the speakers, or headphones. The panning of the the track is mainly done while he recording , and after the recording, and the volume levels get sorted during the mixing, which will leave the overall sound, but during the mastering of the song it wasn't well sorted either as the song sounds quiet different from the headphones and the speakers.
*the bass frequencies are too low, you can hear the bass being very thin, it can be heard in earphones , but not very well in speakers, specially when there are more than two instruments playing at the same time, when the bass and the drums are playing it sounds clear ,but if you add an extra instrument it cannot be heard, this is again probably due to the bad mixing, and the quality of how it was recorded, then again, it doesn't sound like it is intentional but accidental issues. There is a sort of Eco through the song, not an Eco caused by an effect like reverb or ambiance, but more to do with the quality of the recording, it could of be that the wire connections withing the studio were full of dust , specially in the mixing/recording desk, causing a major interference withing the circuits and connections not letting the electricity travel as smooth as is should. Or, it could be that the quality of the recording studio is low, and old. When recording a song is necessary to make sure that the equipment is in condition to record, it needs to cleaned constantly, also covered and protected when not in use, i guess if you want something cheap is not going to sound as good as something with a higher price.
